RE: Hitch/Reciver Locks

I have a jayco and I think the cutoff ball is one of the best option. That lock with the red thing is easy to knock off with a hammer. The cutoff ball will give more trouble. Granted if scumbag wanted it bad enough it will happen. With the ball there is less surface area to beat with a hammer.
Next suggestion is find a storage lot that has quite a few TTs. I was storing a unit at a place with only 5 units to save money. Mine was stolen but it did not have a coupler lock at the time.
I now have a coupler lock for the new unit and it is stored at a lot where there are quite a few units. Lessens my odds of having the unit stolen.

RE: GM factory brake controller w/ elec / hydraulic brakes

I had this problem with my boat trailer when I purchased a new trailer last year. The controller did not see the brakes.
I installed a 3500 or 3000 lbs magent into the system. It now works great. I can stop my 12k lbs boat shorter than my 10k lbs TT.
$30 fix. If you need help about how to wire message me and I will go look at my boat trailer. It is at a storage yard

RE: Leveling and stabilizing with slideout question

So if this is normal then I guess I will have to compensate leveling side to side for the slideout.

Leveling and stabilizing with slideout question

Ok, here is my procedure.
Level trailer side to side with lynx levelers as needed.
Unhitch trailer from truck.
Level front to rear with hitch.
Stiblizers down.
Slideouts come out. Both are on the right side of trailer standing at hitch looking back.
I did this last trip out and noticed that my left side front stabilizer was raised a bit after the slideouts came out. The front slideout is rather long. It has a sofa and the u dinette. I didn't notice this unitl 2-3 days later. I thought the trailer was kind of wobbly. I tightend up the front left and all was fine.

RE: bought a champion genny and took it back

I regret buying my Honda 2000s. I have two of them. 1st one was b/c I needed it for my boat but I sleep on it about 3-4 times a year. I jumped the gun and bought the 2nd one if April knowing I would be getting a generator. We camp mostly at places with electrical and water. I haven't had the need for the 2nd unit as of yet. If I have a need around the house I will be set up.
I have a loud coleman I think around 6500 surge and two honda 2000s. I do have 2 fridge, freezer, pond, salt tank, fresh tank, kegerator, and window a/c unit for air in masterbedroom and then I could still run satellite and tv for the kids.

RE: 18V Drill and Scissor Jacks

I use an 18v dewalt. I just make sure I brace the right direction. Last trip I was distracted by my son and the battery hit my chin. Needless to say there was a bruise and it was tender all weekend.

New mount for LCD tv??

My LCD tv is b/n bedroom and living room. At nite I can spin the tv around and watch in bed. When lying down the picture is distorted b/c of the angle. I am thinking I need a mount that I can tilt up/down.
THe proble with switching out the mount is then I cannot lock down the tv during travel. If not locked down it will spin freely which will not be good.

I do it all the time. Pick up TT from storage and pull home without bars. Take TT back to storage without bars. It is a little nose high but no big deal

RE: End of another season.....most memorable experience.....

Sorry to say this but in FL this is when I get excited about camping. Weather is cool/cold out so during the days we can enjoy nature. Granted we can't enjoy water stuff but we can enjoy a lot of hiking and being outdoors more. Animals are out more b/c it is not so hot and we can see more wildlife.

Do you disconnect battery during storage??

Reading the "WOW" post raises a big question. How many disconnect battery in some way during storage??? I am not saying this would have prevented the fire but at least it
I have not had a chance to install a battery switch like on my boat so I have been pulling the fuse b/n battery and TT. I have been doing this b/c the alarms and dvd/radio player would drain the battery.

Is this normal for slideout????

I had taken my TT back to storage lot the other day. Well I had forgoten to pull down the nite shades so I went through the process. I was pulling down the front bedroom shades on the diver side of the TT to help distinguish which side. I looked down and at the front corner of the slide of the front slide and I could see outside. I would guess it was a rectangle of 2" by 3". I could see daylight and grass.
Is this normal?? Has anyone ever looked and can you look at your slideouts?? My unit has a big slide in front for sofa and u shaped dinette and rear slide is for bunkhouse.

RE: How long are you going to keep your current travel trailer?

We love our floorplan and the options but until the kids and wife does not use it much anymore. It is on a 5 yr loan but probably be paid off in 4. If wife and kids want to keep using it after that then I will keep it. If we do not use it then I will get rid of it cheap just to get rid of it.

Unfortunatly I have no say so about how wide a site is or where the fire ring is. This past weekend it was I say about 14 ft from our TT door.

Mr Heater propane hose advise

Just and FYI for anyone who uses this hose. I purchased a 12 ft hose to connect 20 lbs tank to my weber q grill. No regulator for the hose b/c the grill has a regulator.
Last camping trip I opened the box and connected it. Turned on the valve and lit the grill. THe hottest the grill got was around 250 deg. Started over and the same thing.
I also have a propane tree with a line connecting to tree and grill. Used that and everything was fine.
I called Mr Heater and was advised to open tank valve slowly b/c there is a safety that if there is a rush of propane the safety will kick in and limit propane. Lo and behold I tried the slow method in the driveway and the grill got hot. My last hose didn't have this problem but it was used for Mr heater's big buddy heater

Campfire and smoke alarms??

What does everyone do?? When I build a fire and if someone opens the door it is like a vacuum and sucks some of the smoke in. A few times and the smoke alarm goes off. I have been disconnecting the alarm and then put it on later in the night for safety.
Is this why a lot of RVers don't do campfires??
My kids and the family as a whole love campfires especially when it is cool/cold outside.

RE: Home Dump Station

I am on city sewer and have a cleanout outside. Only problem is it is about 50 ft. A macerator pump would work but haven't had the need. I dump at the dump stations before leaving so can't find the need at home. IF and when I do I will get the macerator pump.

RE: Did you buy the right TT???

After camping 2 yrs in a tent (10x17) with two kids wife and I decided to get a trailer. First thought was a PUP but when we were to go down and sign papers the family stepped into a cheap TT priced around 15k same as a PUP and decided then to start over.
We priced things out and for another 10k we could have so much more. I like this unit better than the last unit I purchased in February. More room and more storage. We did make sure to go all out vs baby steps and dealing with trade ins if we wanted larger.
